The Bayelsa State Government has reinforced its collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO), United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and other international development partners in efforts to improve health security, disease preparedness and emergency response in the state.
The commitment was reiterated at a JEE Advocacy Meeting that was convened by the Commissioner for Health, Prof. Seiyefa Brisibe, in Yenagoa in a statement shared on Wednesday.
The meeting was attended by delegates from international health organizations, federal ministries, top management of the Bayelsa State Ministry of Health and other pertinent state ministries.

In his remarks, Brisibe highlighted that the JEE is an important mechanism through which the state can evaluate its public health capacity and identify deficiencies in health security with a view to improving preparedness against disease outbreaks and other public health emergencies.
The governor stated that the Douye Diri-led administration is still very much committed to developing a resilient and people-oriented health system through partnerships and investments.
According to the commissioner, the contributions of the development partners towards the delivery of improved health services in the state have not only continued but have actually strengthened the health system in the state.
Furthermore, he promised the development partners that the government would be ready to follow up on the recommendations from the evaluations carried out by the partners, which will be geared towards improved collaboration between both parties.
Development partners, including representatives from the WHO and UNICEF, applauded the efforts of the Bayelsa State Government towards the improvement of health in the state through investments.
This has been described as key in the enhancement of health security and emergency preparedness in the state.
At the end of the advocacy meeting, it was clear that all the parties were committed to working even harder on the health security initiatives in order to ensure the safety of the people of Bayelsa State.
