Nigerian Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has shared his views on financial independence in relationships, saying couples should maintain personal bank accounts.
The singer disclosed this during an appearance on The Uncut Podcast, where he was asked whether women should have secret bank accounts separate from their partners.
Davido agreed that women having personal finances could be beneficial in a relationship, but stressed that the practice should not be limited to women.
“Yeah, I think it’s good. I think, I actually think they should,” he said.
According to the singer, both partners should have their own accounts because circumstances can change unexpectedly. He emphasised the importance of being financially prepared and able to stand independently when necessary.
“You never know,” Davido said, stressing that people in relationships should be able to “mount their ground.”
Asked how he would react if he discovered that his wife had a secret bank account, the singer said he would not be upset.

“If I ever found out that my wife had a secret bank account, I’ll not be angry,” Davido said.
He added a humorous twist to his response, suggesting that he could even contribute money to such an account.
Davido ultimately argued that financial independence should be encouraged for both men and women in relationships, rather than being viewed as something exclusively necessary for women.
