The Super Eagles may soon engage the European nation, Kosovo, in their first ever international friendly, according to information trickling in.
The proposal for a friendly game between both national teams was disclosed during a courtesy visit to the Director General of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Mrs. Bukola Olopade by Kosovo Deputy Prime Minister, Glauk Konjufca, in Abuja.
Sources from the NSC, who disclosed this, added that Kosovan Deputy Prime Minister expressed his country’s desire to forge stronger bilateral relationship with Nigeria on sporting frontiers, with a friendly international match between both countries listed as a principal proposal.
“We are proposing a friendly match between the Nigeria National Team and the Kosovo National Team, and we are also ready to have capacity building in Judo where we have produced several world and Olympic champions,” NSC media quoted Konjufca.
A friendly game between both countries, if the proposals gain traction, will go down as first in history between Nigeria and Kosovo, and for Nigeria manager, Eric Chelle, the game presents a good opportunity to look at his squad for future matches, especially the World Cup qualifiers and other assignments.
Kosovo have proved to be a strong force in the recent years in the European game and also came close in qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup before losing narrowly to Turkey in the playoffs to miss out. However, the national team managed by Franco Foda recorded a comfortable 3-0 win against Andorra last month in a friendly encounter.
For the Super Eagles, a game against Kosovo will serve as a real test against an opponent who have built some steam.
