Tinubu Names Yari DG as APC Launches 2027 Presidential Campaign Council

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has constituted the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council for the 2027 general elections, appointing former Zamfara State Governor, Senator Abdulaziz Yari, as Director-General.

The composition of the campaign council was announced on Saturday by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy.

Under the structure, Tinubu will serve as Chairman, while Vice President Kashim Shettima and APC National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, will serve as Vice Chairmen.

Yari, a former governor of Zamfara State and prominent APC figure, will coordinate the campaign as Director-General, while Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma will serve as Secretary.

The APC National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Bashiru, and Hadiza Bala-Usman were named Deputy Secretary and Assistant Secretary, respectively.

Senior APC Figures Join Campaign Council

The council includes several senior party figures appointed as advisers to the President.

They include former APC National Chairman Bisi Akande, former Ogun State Governor Segun Osoba, former Imo State Governor Rochas Okorocha, former APC National Chairman Abdullahi Adamu and Senator Florence Ita Giwa.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas and Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni were appointed Deputy Directors-General for the southern and northern regions.

They will work with Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele and Deputy Senate President Jibril Barau in coordinating activities across the two broad regions.

Former Edo State Governor Adams Oshiomhole will oversee mobilisation as Deputy Director-General, while the President’s Chief of Staff will supervise administration.

James Abiodun Faleke, who played a key role in the APC’s 2023 presidential campaign, returns as Deputy Director-General in charge of election planning, coordination and monitoring.

Zonal Directors Named

The campaign council has also appointed directors for the six geopolitical zones.

Senator Olushola Adeyeye will oversee the South-West, Dr Ngozi Olejeme the South-South, Senator Uche Ekwunife the South-East, Muntaqha Rabe the North-West, Ahmed Muhammed Ketso the North-Central and Senator Sani Danladi the North-East.

Stella Okotete, Abdullahi Garba Ramat and Audu Maikori will serve as secretaries within the election planning directorate.

The legal directorate will be headed by Muiz Adeyemi Banire, with Dr Liman Hassan and Babatunde Ogala as deputies.

Other members of the legal team include Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi; former Katsina State Governor Ibrahim Shema; Worgu Boms and Dr Kingsley Tochukwu Udeh.

Alake to Lead Media Campaign

The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris Malagi, was appointed Coordinating Director for Media and Strategic Communication.

He will work alongside Dele Alake, Bayo Onanuga and Lanre Issa-Onilu, while Tunde Rahman, Sunday Dare, Daniel Bwala and Felix Morka will serve as coordinating deputy directors.

Segun Dada will return as Director of New Media, a position he held during the 2023 campaign, with Solomon Arowolo serving as Secretary of New Media.

The council also named five spokespersons led by Dele Alake. Others are Alwan Hassan, Ayobami Oyalowo, Kemi Asekun-Shittu and Adamu Fanda.

Tinubu Tasks Council With Securing APC Victory

The announcement comes as political parties intensify preparations for the 2027 presidential election, with opposition figures also beginning to mobilise supporters.

Tinubu charged members of the campaign council to work towards securing victory for the APC and directed the various directorates to accommodate other party members who could contribute to the campaign, even if they were not included in the initial list.

The President said the campaign would focus on his administration’s achievements and economic policies.

“We have delivered on our campaign promises and set our country on a path of economic progress,” Tinubu said, adding that the country was now positioned to reap the benefits of a stronger economy.

He urged the campaign team to highlight the administration’s achievements and “inspire hope in every corner of our nation.”

Tinubu also called on the team to defeat opposition forces seeking to replace the APC government.

Dele Momodu Speaks on Supporting Tinubu

The development comes shortly after African Democratic Congress chieftain Dele Momodu said he could support Tinubu if the President remained committed to the democratic principles they fought for during Nigeria’s military era.

Momodu made the comments during an interview on Arise TV on Thursday, August 20.

The veteran journalist said his opposition to the Tinubu administration was based on principle and not personal hostility towards the President.

He warned against replacing military dictatorship with what he described as “civilian dictatorship,” while maintaining that he still held Tinubu in high regard.

Momodu credited Tinubu with influencing his political development and acknowledged the President’s political achievements in Lagos.

The comments come as the political atmosphere ahead of the 2027 elections continues to intensify, with Tinubu preparing to seek a second term and opposition parties working to build a formidable challenge to the APC.
