Prof. Chituru Orluwene, the Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital (UPTH), has commended the decision by President Bola Tinubu to allocate the sum of N10 billion for Ebola prevention, saying that it is evidence that Nigeria needs to take proactive steps to protect against health hazards.
During his speech at the UPTH Management Retreat on Strategic Planning in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Orluwene expressed that the funding could not come at a better time as recent Ebola occurrences in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda had put African nations on edge.

“We must be proactive and not reactive, and that is what the President has done,” he said of the funding initiative, which he believes was necessary to help prevent any occurrence in Nigeria.
Orluwene further commended the administration of Tinubu for making healthcare one of the priorities of the Renewed Hope Agenda because early intervention is key in safeguarding lives from health problems and disasters.
Also, the CMD of the UPTH highlighted some challenges being faced by the hospital which include lack of funds, infrastructure problems and shortage of manpower among others.
