The Rivers State Government says it will deploy about 5,000 additional teachers to public schools across the state in the coming weeks to strengthen teaching and improve learning.
The Commissioner for Education, Dr Peters Nwagor, disclosed this while inspecting schools to monitor compliance with the government’s directive on the resumption of the 2026/2027 academic session.
Nwagor said the deployment is part of the government’s efforts to address manpower gaps and ensure students receive adequate attention from qualified teachers.
He also revealed plans to renovate and improve school facilities across the state, stressing that a better learning environment is important for effective teaching and academic development.

The Commissioner urged students who have resumed to encourage their friends and classmates who are yet to return to school to do so.
He also called on members of the public to notify the appropriate authorities about children who remain at home despite the commencement of the new academic session.
Nwagor assured parents that teachers are ready to receive students and appealed to them to ensure their children attend school regularly.
During the inspection, the Commissioner visited Community Secondary School, Rumuepirikom, and State Primary School, Olanada, accompanied by other education officials.
