Rivers United have issued a statement following the Nigeria Premier Football League’s (NPFL) summary jurisdiction decision over their Matchday 11 fixture against Rangers International on November 1.
The Port Harcourt club acknowledged receipt of the league’s decision but maintained that its actions before and during the match were preceded by engagements aimed at ensuring the orderly conduct of the fixture and protecting stakeholders’ interests.
Rivers United reaffirmed their commitment to professionalism, saying they would continue to respect the league’s regulations, commercial arrangements and broadcasting framework.
The club, however, called for improved communication and collaboration among the NPFL, participating teams and broadcast partners, particularly regarding match scheduling.
It also questioned the distribution of live television coverage, arguing that all 20 clubs should receive fair and balanced exposure.
According to the statement, the Media and Broadcast Initiative (MBI) agreement was expected to provide comprehensive coverage of league fixtures, including matches such as Niger Tornadoes versus Barau FC.
Rivers United alleged that the coverage commitment was not fulfilled and questioned the absence of an explanation, apology or sanction over the matter.
The club maintained that accountability should apply equally to all parties, insisting that any breach of an agreement should be addressed regardless of who is responsible.
Despite the disagreement, Rivers United assured their supporters that they remain committed to competing with integrity, representing Rivers State with pride and engaging constructively with the league and its partners.
The statement comes amid the ongoing dispute surrounding the club’s Matchday 11 fixture against Rangers and the NPFL’s disciplinary action.
