No less than seven persons have died after eating beef barbecue popularly known as Suya with juice in Umueze Umuakanu, Umuahia North LGA, Abia State.
According to ABN TV, the father of the house Mr. Jessey was said to have bought the suya which all members of the family, including extended family who came for holidays, ate.
They were said to have started throwing up after eating the suya suspected to have been poisoned.
However, amongst the 11 persons who ate the Suya, only the Wife, Mrs Ogba Jessey, and his son survived.
Both of them are currently receiving treatment at Federal Medical Centre Umuahia.
The incident created panic in the entire community.
The deceased have been deposited at the mortuary.
When contacted, SP Godfrey Ogbonna, the police spokesman in the state said the incident was being investigated.
