Nigerian gospel singer and pastor Nathaniel Bassey has reportedly become the first African gospel artiste to surpass one billion views on YouTube.
Statistics from his official channel, Nathaniel Bassey Main, show that it has accumulated 1,014,544,577 views and attracted 5.24 million subscribers since its creation in 2011.
The milestone has been driven by his popular worship songs, including Imela, You Are God and Onise Iyanu, as well as content from his online worship and prayer movement, the Hallelujah Challenge.
The achievement comes shortly after the conclusion of the latest edition of the Hallelujah Challenge, which ran from October 5 to 30, 2026. Founded by Bassey in 2017, the movement has attracted participants from different parts of the world through online sessions of praise, worship and prayer.
News of the milestone has generated excitement on social media, with followers and gospel music lovers congratulating the singer on the achievement.
Bassey’s reported record marks a significant moment for African gospel music and highlights the growing reach of Nigerian gospel artistes through digital platforms.
