ASUU strike: Dons calls on Nigerians to elect serious leaders

The federal government has been called upon to end issues with Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, in order to stop the incessant strike action.

Political Analyst and Associate Professor of Political Science, Ignatius Ajuru University, Dr Kenneth Nweke, who made the call while fielding questions from our reporter Tina Amanda, said strike actions affect the educational system negatively.

According to him, government at all levels should consider the aspirations of the people, stressing that it is the same government that asked for the peoples’ vote and yet failed to live up to its own expectation.

“We should get over this kind of strike because, strike should not be something we talk about all the time regarding university, students and lecturers.

“We expected that by now this present government should have ended everything concerning agitations of lecturers from the universities.

“For once, let government be in power and end incessant strikes so it will not look like lecturers are making frivolous demands.

“We should have a government that will be able to say that throughout their tenure, universities will experience a hitch-free calendar where strikes will not interrupt such calendar‘’

Dr Nweke urged the public to elect a government that will be responsive to their plight through the power of their vote.

“When you have a government that comes into power through the consent of the people, such government ought to rule in line with the dictates of the people, the only thing that will end the incessant strike is when we have a genuine government that is responsible to the people at all levels.

“The option left for people is to come out on the voting day to decide who governs them in line with some of the assessment to really ascertain who would be responsive and responsible to them.‘’
