Massimiliano Allegri began his Serie A reign with a victory as Napoli secured a 2-0 win over Genoa, with two late goals extending the hosts’ wait for an opening-day top-flight victory since 2020.
Genoa started brightly, with Morten Frendrup firing a 30-yard volley narrowly wide before Vitinha also came close. Tommaso Baldanzi and Alex Amorim later tested Napoli’s defence, while the visitors struggled to create clear opportunities before half-time.
Napoli improved after the break, with Justin Bijlow saving Scott McTominay’s effort before Kevin De Bruyne was introduced from the bench. The Belgian helped Napoli gain greater control, but the game remained goalless heading into the final 10 minutes.

De Bruyne finally broke the deadlock in the 88th minute, exchanging passes with Antonio Vergara before powering a finish past Bijlow.
The Belgian then turned provider moments later, delivering a low cross that Lorenzo Lucca cleverly left for Vergara to squeeze the ball over the line and seal the victory.
The result means Napoli have now won nine of their last 10 Serie A opening-day matches, while Genoa have managed just one victory in their last 27 league meetings with the Partenopei.
