The Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Social Vices (POCACOV) Rivers State Volunteer Club has called on the general public, especially the youth, to abstain from hard drugs and other dangerous substances because drug abuse is a grave danger to societal security.
This caution is part of a press statement made available to newsmen by the Chairman of the Rivers State POCACOV Volunteer Club, Ambassador Eke Onwuka, to mark the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, which is commemorated worldwide annually on 26th June.
The theme for World Drug Day 2026 is “World Drug Problem: Persisting Issues, New Challenges, Innovative Responses,” aimed at increasing awareness of the dangers of substance abuse and promoting concerted efforts to fight illicit drug trafficking.

According to the organisation, drug abuse continues to be the major cause of insecurity, psychological problems, violent acts, and even unnecessary loss of lives; it further explained that the drug abuse menace is hampering the economic growth of the state through discouraging investments and creating instability within the society.
Furthermore, POCACOV has advised the youth, commercial transporters, tricycle owners, and other members of the community to shun cultism and the use of dangerous drugs, Revelation Agent report.
The volunteer body appreciated the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, and the Commissioner of Police, Rivers State Command, CP Olugbenga Adepoju, for their contributions to combating cultism and drug-related crimes.
Further, the volunteering body called upon members of the public to support the Nigeria Police Force via the non-kinetic crime prevention program of the Nigeria Police Force, popularly known as POCACOV, by informing the nearby police station of any suspicious activity.
The volunteering group reiterated its determination to cooperate with concerned parties in educating the youths about the ill effects of drug addiction and cultism.
