Afrobeats superstar Burna Boy has reignited the long-running debate over Nigeria’s biggest music stars after declaring that he has moved beyond the popular “Big 3” classification.
The singer made the statement during a recent performance while addressing his fans on stage.
In a video from the show, Burna Boy told the crowd:
“Next time anybody tells you anything called the ‘Big 3’, tell them that there’s only the ‘Big 2’ and then there’s Burna Boy.”
The comment appears to challenge the long-standing classification that groups Burna Boy, Wizkid and Davido as Nigeria’s “Big 3” artistes.

The trio have for years been regarded as the leading figures responsible for taking Nigerian Afrobeats to a global audience, with each artiste recording major international collaborations, awards and chart successes.
Burna Boy’s latest remark, however, suggests that he believes his achievements have placed him in a category of his own.
His statement has since renewed discussions among music fans about the hierarchy and influence of Nigeria’s biggest Afrobeats stars.
