The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control has alerted the public to the circulation of unregistered and suspected counterfeit toothpaste products in the market.
In a notice shared on Sunday, the agency said its Post Marketing Surveillance Directorate received a complaint about the distribution of the products in Kaduna State, which triggered an investigation.
According to the agency, officials who visited the outlet discovered two suspected fake products labelled “Coglaet ActivGel 100g” and “Coglaet Herbal 100g.”
It noted that the shop owner claimed the items were purchased from a door-to-door sales representative but could not provide any proof of purchase.

NAFDAC warned that the products failed to meet required regulatory standards for registration and quality assurance, posing potential risks to public health and safety.
Further checks showed that the items, including “Coglaet Crema Dental Herbal 100g” and “Coglaet ActivGel 100g,” had no batch numbers or NAFDAC registration numbers.
The products were labelled as being manufactured by Guangzhou YECAI Oral Cleaning Products Co., Ltd, in China, with manufacturing dates of August 2025 and expiry dates of August 2029.
The agency said the counterfeit products have been removed from circulation, while investigations are ongoing to trace those responsible for their distribution.
It also directed its zonal directors and state coordinators to intensify surveillance and ensure the products are withdrawn wherever they are found.
NAFDAC advised distributors, retailers, and consumers to be cautious and verify the authenticity and condition of products before purchase or use.
Consumers were encouraged to report suspected counterfeit or substandard products to the nearest NAFDAC office, through its hotline, or via official reporting platforms, including its website and the Med Safety mobile app.
