Nigerian Exchange Group Plc (NGX Group) was named Africa’s Best Exchange at the Euromoney Markets Awards 2026 for its contributions to capital formation, digital innovation, and financial market infrastructure.
The award was presented at the Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park in London on Thursday, October 15, 2026, following significant growth in Nigeria’s equities market and the Group’s market development initiatives in 2025.
A major contributor to the recognition was NGX Invest, the Group’s electronic public-offering platform, which facilitates subscriptions to public offers and rights issues.
The platform played a key role in Nigeria’s banking sector recapitalisation exercise, facilitating more than ₦2.8 trillion in capital raising.
By September 2026, NGX Invest had expanded its distribution network to more than 180 channels, including stockbrokers, banks and fintech companies. The introduction of a WhatsApp subscription channel has also widened access to investment opportunities.
Nigeria’s equities market recorded strong growth in 2025, with the NGX All-Share Index rising by 51.19 per cent, while equities turnover increased by 109.48 per cent to ₦5.96 trillion. Market capitalisation reached ₦99.38 trillion during the year.
The positive performance has continued in 2026. As of October 16, the All-Share Index gained 59.07 per cent year-to-date, while equities turnover rose to ₦7.82 trillion, up 73.78 per cent from ₦4.50 trillion in the corresponding period of 2025.

Market capitalisation also climbed to ₦160.73 trillion.
Commenting on the award, NGX Group’s Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Temi Popoola, said the recognition reflected the organisation’s commitment to strengthening the infrastructure and technology that support investment and capital formation.
He acknowledged the contributions of regulators, policymakers, issuers, investors, stockbrokers and other stakeholders to the development of Nigeria’s capital market.
Popoola reaffirmed the Group’s commitment to expanding digital access to investment opportunities, improving market efficiency and strengthening connections with other African markets to make Nigeria’s capital market more accessible and competitive.
Beyond digital innovation, NGX Group is also advancing sustainable finance through its NGX Net-Zero Programme (N-Zero), implemented in partnership with DEG Impulse gGmbH and Africa Foresight Group, with support from DEG Impulse’s develoPPP programme.
The initiative helps Nigerian businesses improve their climate readiness, establish science-based emissions-reduction targets and develop transition plans that could enhance their access to climate-aligned financing.
According to the Group, more than 50 companies have engaged with the programme, with 19 joining as community members.
Other priorities include improving post-trade efficiency and strengthening regional market integration. In June 2026, Nigeria transitioned to a T+1 settlement cycle, reducing the time between the execution and settlement of securities transactions.
The Group is also pursuing partnerships with other African exchanges to encourage cross-border investment and deepen regional financial market connections.
The Euromoney Markets Awards recognise organisations that contribute to global financial market development through infrastructure, platforms and systems that improve efficiency and connectivity.
The latest recognition highlights NGX Group’s efforts to modernise Nigeria’s capital market, broaden investment participation and strengthen its capacity to mobilise funds for sustainable economic growth.
