The Egg Sellers and Distributors Association of Nigeria (ESDAN) has launched a digital platform aimed at addressing recurring egg glut in the poultry industry by connecting farmers, distributors, retailers and consumers.
The platform, known as the EggHome App, is designed to improve market access, streamline distribution and reduce losses suffered by poultry farmers when unsold eggs lose freshness.
ESDAN National President, Olaide Graham, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Lagos on Monday, attributing the persistent glut partly to inefficiencies in marketing and distribution across the industry.
“ESDAN recognises that inefficiencies in marketing, distribution and access to consumers can contribute to this challenge,” Graham said.
She explained that the application would establish a more direct connection between suppliers and buyers, enabling producers to reach a wider customer base, minimise avoidable losses and sell their products at sustainable prices.
“Through this initiative, ESDAN seeks to make fresh eggs more affordable and accessible while providing consumers with a convenient way to connect with egg suppliers,” she said.

According to Graham, the platform is also designed to address unfair pricing practices and exploitation across the distribution chain by promoting transparency and improving transactions among industry stakeholders.
She added that the initiative would benefit poultry farmers struggling to sell their produce while providing consumers with more accessible and affordable sources of protein.
Graham spoke as the association marked the 30th anniversary of World Egg Day, an annual observance held on the second Friday in October to promote awareness of the nutritional value, affordability and versatility of eggs.
The 2026 celebration, themed “Protein That Powers and Protects,” featured activities aimed at educating students on the nutritional benefits of eggs and their importance in growth and development.
As part of the anniversary programme, the association also extended support to widows, elderly people and other vulnerable members of society.
Graham said the activities reflected ESDAN’s commitment to promoting nutrition awareness, improving access to affordable protein and supporting community welfare.
The association expressed optimism that the EggHome App would strengthen connections across the egg supply chain, improve distribution efficiency and contribute to reducing post-production losses in Nigeria’s poultry industry.
