The Nigerian Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers, known as NIEEE, has asked for partnerships between government, industry and engineers to improve electricity supply and speed up Nigeria’s energy transition.
This call came at the institute’s 22nd International Conference and Exhibition on Power and Telecommunications held in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
The Minister of State for Industry, Trade and Investment, Senator John Enoh, said that reliable electricity and modern technology are essential for growth.
Represented by Itoro Johnson, the coordinator of the Industrial Inspectorate Department, Senator John Enoh said that the government is implementing the Nigeria Industrial Policy 2025 to strengthen local manufacturing, improve infrastructure and attract investment.
He disclosed that initiatives under the policy have attracted more than $380 million in strategic financing commitments for manufacturing and value‑chain development.

The minister listed agro‑processing, petrochemicals, pharmaceuticals, textiles and light manufacturing as priority sectors. He also added that the government is promoting power and gas infrastructure for industrial clusters.
In his address, the Director‑General of the Energy Commission of Nigeria, Dr Abdullahi Mustapha, said that digital technology is becoming central to modern energy systems.
Represented by Dr Manaseh Shitta, Dr Abdullahi Mustapha warned that rising electricity demand from intelligent cloud computing and data centres could add pressure to Nigeria’s power grid.
He also identified cybersecurity threats, ageing infrastructure and inadequate investment as obstacles to digital transformation.
NIEEE President Felix Adegboye said that the conference was designed to encourage innovation, knowledge sharing and practical solutions across the energy and telecommunications sectors.
He noted that global energy systems are changing rapidly, driven by the need for affordable and sustainable electricity.
The conference also featured awards for stakeholders and the launch of the NICEE Journal.
