NiMet Partners with RSU to Advance Climate Research in Nigeria

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) and Rivers State University (RSU) have entered a collaborative agreement aimed at boosting research, education, and technical expertise in meteorological sciences across Nigeria.

This development was cemented through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed at NiMet’s headquarters in Abuja, setting the stage for cooperation in areas such as atmospheric science, climate analysis, and ocean studies.

The partnership also includes plans for mutual data access and tailored climate forecasting for the South-South geopolitical zone.

At the signing event, Professor Anosike underscored the relevance of the partnership, describing it as a forward-thinking approach to enhancing Nigeria’s climate monitoring systems.

He emphasized that the initiative would enrich students’ learning experiences through fieldwork and applied research while helping communities adapt to climate variability.

“This MoU with Rivers State University is a vital step toward strengthening our observation network and early warning coverage, allowing for joint climate research and resilience, ” Prof Zeb-Obipi said.

The agreement signals a shared commitment by both institutions to drive scientific progress and equip future professionals with the tools to respond effectively to climate change.
