Federal Government, NIPOST Offer 15% Logistics Discount to Support Nigerian SMEs

In a strategic move to boost small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Nigeria, the Federal Government, through the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN), has partnered with the Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST) to provide a 15% discount on logistics services.

This initiative, which will commence on August 26, aims to reduce transportation costs for SMEs, enhance business conditions, and increase sales. The collaboration was formalized on Wednesday in Abuja, with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between SMEDAN’s Director-General, Mr. Charles Odii, and NIPOST’s Postmaster General, Mrs. Tola Odeyemi.

Odii highlighted that this partnership is a direct response to feedback from SMEs regarding the high cost of logistics, which often surpasses the cost of goods, thereby discouraging sales and limiting business opportunities.

“The discount will be available to SMEs registered with SMEDAN through both online pickups and walk-in services,” Odii explained. He emphasized that the initiative is part of a broader effort to monitor and evaluate how much SMEs save through this partnership, with a view to further improving the collaboration.

Mrs. Odeyemi, NIPOST’s Postmaster General, welcomed the partnership, noting that it is crucial for achieving inclusive economic growth in Nigeria. She pointed out that MSMEs account for over 90% of businesses in the country and contribute significantly to the national GDP.

“This partnership is not only timely but necessary for spurring Nigeria’s economic growth,” Odeyemi said. She assured that NIPOST’s nationwide infrastructure would be leveraged to ensure that goods are delivered efficiently and affordably to even the most remote parts of the country.

Both agencies have committed to maintaining a dedicated customer support unit to address any issues that may arise, ensuring a seamless experience for SMEs as they focus on growing their businesses.
