Ignatius Ajuru University of Education (IAUE), Rumuolumeni, Port Harcourt, Rivers State, has ranked seventh among universities in the 2026 Ranking of Universities for staff Google Scholar profile submissions.
The Vice-Chancellor of the university, Professor Okechuku Onuchuku, disclosed this during the Senate meeting held on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, at the Postgraduate Hall.
Onuchuku commended academic staff whose articles and publications were cited on Google Scholar, saying their contributions had helped improve the university’s visibility and profile in the rankings.
He urged members of staff to sustain the momentum and continue producing research and publications capable of enhancing the university’s academic standing.
The Vice-Chancellor also expressed appreciation to Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, for approving the implementation of the agreement reached with the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), which, according to him, had resulted in the new salary structure recently received by staff.

He also commended the IAUE ASUU Chairman, Professor Obinna Prince Ikechi, for facilitating the implementation process, as well as the university’s Bursary staff for working to ensure the new salary structure was implemented.
In another development, the National Universities Commission (NUC) has approved five new undergraduate and postgraduate programmes for the university.
The programmes are Special Needs Education; Human Kinetics and Sports Management; Environmental Management and Toxicology; Logistics and Supply Chain Management; and Cyber Security.
The development follows a NUC visit to the university on September 8, 2026, to assess the institution’s readiness for the newly introduced programmes.
Onuchuku said plans were underway to appoint and announce qualified academic staff who would head the new departments.
Meanwhile, the university Senate has expelled a final-year student of the Department of English and Literary Studies, Miss Onyewuenyi Chiamaka Nora, with matriculation number U/2022/19900, over what the university described as “damaging content creation.”
According to the university, the expulsion was intended to serve as a deterrent to other students.
IAUE said the student had featured in a viral interview in which she allegedly claimed that her project topic was “Citizenship,” despite the university stating that there was no such project topic in the department.
The university also said she alleged that her supervisor wrote the project for her.
Senate further approved the graduating results for the 2024/2025 academic session from IAUE’s faculties and affiliate institutions, including Peaceland University, Enugu, and the College of Education, Warri, as presented by the Postgraduate School.
The Senate also approved the 2026/2027 academic calendar presented by the Director of the Academic Planning Unit, Professor Joseph Kinanee.
According to the approved calendar, returning students are expected to resume on Monday, November 9, 2026, while registration for first-year students is ongoing and will continue fully from Monday, November 16.
Lectures will begin for returning students on Monday, November 23, while lectures for fresh students will commence on Monday, November 30.
The Christmas break is scheduled to begin on Friday, December 18, with academic activities resuming on Monday, January 4, 2027.
The statement was signed by the university’s Public Relations Officer, Dr Ngozi Okiridu.
