Egbelu community cries out over 7 months lack of power supply

Residents of Egbelu community in Obio/Akpor Local government
area are lamenting over the continuous power outage in the community.

Speaking to TPCN correspondent Tina Stephen, Some residents of the community expressed their grievances over the continuous power outage, saying it has crippled businesses and development in the area.

They also lamented that the community has not felt the presence of PHED for the past seven months, unlike some neighbouring communities.

Also speaking, the Paramount ruler of Egbelu community, His Royal Highness Chief Innocent Eze, appealed to the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company (PHED) to restore power supply in Egbelu and provide them with functioning transformer.

“For the past months, we don’t have power supply because our transformer is bad. We don’t have money to buy a new transformer. The faulty one was community effort, so we need PHED help”

Responding, Manager Corporate Communications, Port Harcourt electricity distribution company, John Onyi, said that the problem of Egbelu power outage was as a result of vandalization. He said PHED is working to rectify the problem.

“They still remain our customers and of course we can’t do without them. I will investigate further to find out if their community transformer is part of the eighteen transformer repaired and ready for installation. Most importantly, they should reciprocate with the payment of electricity bills, and that’s what can sustain all of us”

He explained that the epileptic power supply in the state is a general thing and is as a result of low megawatts generated.
