Rivers United presented with NPFL title, as Wike doles out cash gifts

Rivers State owned football club, Rivers United FC have won the 2021/2022 Nigeria Professional Football League trophy.

The pride of Rivers beat Gombe United 1 – 0 in their last match of the season at Adokiye Amasiemaka Stadium in Port Harcourt on Sunday

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike presented the trophy to them and announced a reward of One Million Naira for each member of the team for defeating Gombe United.

Recall that Rivers United were already confirmed winners of the 2021/22 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) on June 26 following Plateau United’s defeat by Akwa United but had to play their last match to receive the trophy.

Present at the presentation of the trophy were the Minister of Youths and Sports, Sunday Dare, President, Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Amaju Pinnick, the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer League Management Company, Mallam Shehu Dikko and Davidson Owumi.
