Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, and former senator Magnus Abe have urged former Rivers State governor, Rotimi Amaechi, to reconsider his reported support for former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, insisting that the South should retain the presidency until 2031.
They spoke on Tuesday in Port Harcourt at the unveiling of candidates of the Rivers State Rainbow Coalition, where Wike also mobilised support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.
Abe argued that Amaechi’s reported alignment with Atiku contradicted his earlier position on power rotation between the North and South.
“On behalf of all of us here gathered in Rivers State, we want to call on Amaechi to immediately respect his own position and resign as the vice-presidential candidate to Atiku Abubakar, because it is the turn of the South,” Abe said.
He also urged Atiku to respect the power-rotation principle, while declaring his support for Tinubu and the Rainbow Coalition.

Wike called on Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) members across the country to support Tinubu in the 2027 election, irrespective of their party affiliations.
He specifically appealed to PDP members in Rivers, Kwara, Benue, Ondo and Ogun states to back the President’s second-term ambition.
The FCT minister also questioned Atiku’s political consistency and criticised Amaechi’s administration in Rivers State between 2007 and 2015, raising allegations concerning the management of funds and the implementation of development programmes.
Wike referenced a judicial panel of inquiry and subsequent court proceedings in support of his claims. However, the allegations were not independently established at the event.
He said the Rainbow Coalition aimed to unite politicians across party lines behind Tinubu and candidates endorsed by the alliance in Rivers State.
Wike further urged political stakeholders to avoid actions that could trigger renewed tension and called for peaceful political engagement ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The event was attended by Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, Abe, and other political leaders and candidates under the coalition.
