A clash between cult groups has led to the death of a 200-level student of Niger Delta University (NDU) Amassoma while two suspects were apprehended with two homemade guns and two live 9mm rounds of ammunition by the Bayelsa State Police Command in a follow-up action.
This information was contained in a statement issued by the Command’s spokesperson, Musa Mohammed, on Thursday.
According to the Command spokesperson, the deceased, identified as Ebube Jonathan, a 200-level Management Science student and a suspected member of the Black Axe Confraternity, was assaulted on 7 July, 2026, on Kabaka Street in Amassoma, Southern Ijaw Local Government Area.
He was allegedly macheted and shot by unknown gunmen and later pronounced dead by a medical doctor.

In a swift move within two hours of the attack, the police apprehended two suspects in Ending Pele, Amassoma.
Godswin Adobu, 24, a 300 level student of Fine and Applied Art in the Faculty of Environmental Sciences at Niger Delta University was fingered along with his 21 year old colleague, Tarilaefa Fesingha.
As reported by the police, the duo were reported to have planned an act of vengeance for the loss of their fellow gang member when they were apprehended. Two homemade pistols and two live 9mm ammunition rounds were seized by the operatives.
The Commissioner of Police reiterated the Command’s dedication to fight cultism and other forms of violence in Bayelsa State and also warned all criminal elements to cease their criminal behavior or face full force of the law.
The police equally appealed to the general public to assist with relevant information that would aid efforts to curb criminal activities in the state.
