The Chairman of the Alesa Community Development Committee (CDC) in Eleme, Mr. Joseph Osarojiji, has called on aspiring political leaders to pay closer attention to the growing security challenges facing communities in Eleme and across Rivers State.
Speaking during the election of a senatorial candidate at Ward 1, Unit 2, Eleme, Osarojiji said residents are becoming increasingly worried about the activities of cattle rearers, land grabbers, and unknown gunmen, which he described as major threats to peace and safety in the area.
According to him, many families now live in fear as cases of land encroachment and disputes involving cattle rearers continue to create tension within communities. He noted that beyond the loss of land and property, the situation has affected the sense of security that residents once enjoyed.

He also expressed concern over the activities of unknown gunmen, saying their actions have made life difficult for many people and slowed down development in the area.
Osarojiji urged whoever eventually emerges as senator to make the protection of lives and property a top priority. He stressed that the people of Eleme need leaders who will push for practical solutions to the security challenges affecting their daily lives.
“The safety of our people must come first. When people cannot move freely or feel secure in their own communities, development becomes difficult,” he said.
He added that tackling insecurity, protecting community lands, and strengthening the relationship between local communities and security agencies should form part of the agenda of any leader seeking to represent the people.
