A 42 hours movement restriction has been imposed in seven local government areas ahead of the by-election.
The by-election is expected to hold on Saturday, 20 June, 2026 in the Rivers South-East Senatorial District by the Rivers State Police Command.
Following the statements issued on Friday by the Police Spokesperson, Agabe Kaborlo, the directive will take effect from midnight on Friday, 19 June and end on Saturday, 20 June at 6:00 p.m.
The ban is expected to cover residents of Andoni, Tai, Khana, Gokana, Eleme, Oyigbo and Opobo/Nkoro Local Government Areas.
According to a statement released, the ban is an arrangement geared towards making the election process peaceful, orderly, free, fair and credible.

The Police command added that the imposition of ban would help to make the process safe, protect the officials and material for elections, stop electoral malpractice and create enabling atmosphere for voters.
According to the statement, the ban does not affect INEC officials, security personnel, ambulances and fire services among others.
Commissioner of Police, Rivers State Command, CP Olugbenga Adepoju implored political parties, aspirants, and the people in the affected area to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies in the conduct of the exercise.
According to CP Adepoju, any individual caught flouting the restriction order, participating in electoral violence, voter intimidation, acts of thuggery, and any form of illegality would be dealt with firmly and the full weight of the law would be thrown against such individuals.
It was further noted by the commissioner that the police, in coordination with other security agencies, have made adequate provisions for manpower and logistics to guarantee the safety of lives and properties, securing of election materials, and a credible election process.
