The Chairman of Port Harcourt Local Government Area, PHALGA, Allwell Ihunda, has provided operational vehicles to elected representatives and key officials of the council as part of efforts to improve governance and service delivery at the grassroots.
According to a statement issued by the Rivers State Government on Wednesday night, the initiative aimed to enhance mobility, improve administrative efficiency, and increase access to communities across the local government area.
Speaking during the presentation ceremony, Ihunda said the vehicles were procured to support council officials in carrying out their duties more effectively.
He explained that the vehicles were not just official property but practical tools intended to improve communication with residents, enhance responsiveness and strengthen local administration throughout the area.
The council chairman stated that the purchase was included in the local government’s budget for the current fiscal year and carefully designed to support activities across all 20 wards in Port Harcourt LGA
He urged beneficiaries to make proper use of the vehicles and maintain them responsibly, stressing that the gesture should inspire greater dedication to the welfare and development of residents.
Ihunda also expressed gratitude to God for enabling his administration to fulfil what he described as an important commitment to the legislative arm and principal officers of the council.
He further appreciated President Bola Tinubu and other stakeholders for their support towards strengthening local government administration, noting that their contributions played a role in restoring democratic governance at the grassroots level in Rivers State.
Former Commissioner for Social Welfare and Rehabilitation, Hon. Inime Aguma, who spoke at the event, praised the council chairman for the initiative despite the country’s economic challenges.
She encouraged the beneficiaries to use the vehicles strictly for official assignments and developmental activities that would benefit residents of the local government area.
Several political leaders and stakeholders from Port Harcourt Local Government Area also commended Ihunda’s leadership, describing his administration as focused on people-centred governance and practical development.
They noted that the operational vehicles would improve both legislative and administrative performance within the council.
The Leader of the 10th Legislative Assembly, Noble Hanachor spoke behalf of the beneficiaries.He thanked the chairman for the support and pledged the continued cooperation of the legislative arm with the administration.
The event featured the official handover of vehicle keys to the deputy chairman, the leader of the legislative council, councillors representing the 20 wards, the secretary of council, the chairman’s chief of staff and the chief security officer.
