The Rivers State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has assured members and supporters that the party remains united and focused on preparations for the 2027 general elections despite a recent court judgment on its national leadership.
In a statement issued on Saturday by the State Publicity Secretary and Director of Communication, Media and Public Affairs of the Rivers ADC Governorship Campaign Council, Chizy Enyi, the party said it had noted the judgment delivered on Thursday, November 5, 2026, by Hon. Justice Peter Lifu of the Federal High Court, Abuja, concerning the leadership under Distinguished Senator David Mark.
While respecting the judiciary, the ADC stated that the judgment is being challenged through the appropriate judicial process.
According to the statement, The national leadership has filed a Notice of Appeal at the Court of Appeal with an application for Stay of Execution while the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has been formally notified of these steps on November 6, 2026.
The party urged INEC to exercise restraint and avoid premature actions that could prejudice the pending appeal.
It also noted that legal issues arising from an earlier judgment by Hon. Justice Musa Liman of the Federal High Court on July 2, 2026, remained subject to appellate review.
Enyi emphasised that party structures and grassroots mobilisation across the 23 Local Government Areas of Rivers State remain active as the party’s Governorship candidate Sir Gabriel Baritulem Pidomson, PhD, his running mate Mr. David Amapakaye Okumgba, and other candidates continue to feature in the party’s preparations, subject to the outcome of the judicial proceedings.
He called on members and supporters to remain calm, united and focused, reaffirming the ADC’s commitment to democratic participation and the rule of law.
