The All Progressives Congress (APC) has put its membership at about 13 million, with more than 261,000 executive members across the country, saying its numerical strength and nationwide structures give it an advantage ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The party’s National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, disclosed this while receiving a pre-election fact-finding mission of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), led by former Sierra Leone Vice-President, Victor Bockarie Foh, at the APC national secretariat in Abuja.
According to a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Information Strategy, Abimbola Tooki, Yilwatda said the party had established structures in all local government areas, with leadership and membership networks extending from the ward level to the national headquarters.
He explained that the APC’s membership database contained details that could be verified through members’ National Identification Numbers and voter identification information.
The chairman also disclosed that the party had 31 governors, 88 senators and 208 members of the House of Representatives, describing the figures as evidence of its strong political presence across the country.
He added that more than 7,000 aspirants had contested for various positions on the APC platform ahead of the 2027 elections, noting that the party had produced candidates for the positions it intended to contest.
Yilwatda further said the APC had inaugurated its campaign council, commenced campaign activities and uploaded its candidates’ details to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) portal.
On preparations for the elections, he urged INEC to follow its published timetable and ensure that electoral guidelines were applied fairly to all political parties.
He also assured the ECOWAS delegation that the APC would not use its numerical advantage to undermine opposition parties. According to him, all parties should enjoy equal access to the media, campaign venues and other legitimate platforms for reaching voters.
Earlier, Foh explained that the ECOWAS mission was in Nigeria to assess the political environment ahead of the 2027 general elections and support efforts to ensure credible, free and fair polls.
He said the team would base its findings on systematic observation, verification and data collection rather than assumptions.
Foh commended the APC chairman for providing information on the party’s membership strength, organisational structure and preparations for the elections, saying the engagement would help the mission gain a clearer understanding of Nigeria’s political landscape.
