Two months after leaving the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa State presided over the party’s first stakeholders’ meeting.
The Port City News (TCPN) reported that in November 2025, Diri described the PDP as a “sinking ship” following his defection.
In a statement posted on his X page on Tuesday, the governor said the meeting aimed to chart a course for the APC’s growth and unity ahead of the next general election.
He revealed that party stakeholders, through a motion strongly supported by all, resolved to back and deliver President Bola Tinubu for a second term in the 2027 presidential election.
“I am pleased with the large attendance of key leaders and members, a sign of a new beginning and togetherness under my leadership.

“I also announced the decision of the National Executive Committee for the immediate past State Working Committee to continue as members of the Caretaker Committee in the state to guide the ongoing membership e-registration process,” Diri said.
The governor further urged party members to remain united and focused on their collective vision for a better Bayelsa, where politics of violence and intimidation are a thing of the past.
He also disclosed that the late Senator J. K. Brambaifa was mourned during the stakeholders’ meeting.
“We later observed a minute’s silence in honour of one of our late leaders, Senator J. K. Brambaifa,” he added.
Brambaifa, a former representative of Bayelsa West Senatorial District in the 5th National Assembly, died on Saturday at an Abuja hospital. He was 81.
