The Rivers State Ministry of Transport says Commercial taxi, bus, and tricycle (keke) operators in the State have until 31 October 2026 to paint their vehicles in the official approved state colours or risk immediate impoundment.
A statement by the Permanent Secretary, Rivers State Ministry of Transport, Dr (Mrs) Vera Ndidi Sam-Dike, which contained the final reminder, described the colour scheme as a key safety measure that will make legitimate commercial vehicles easier for passengers to identify and strengthen public security.
According to the statement, from 1 November 2026, enforcement will be strict and any commercial vehicle still operating without the approved colours will be seized.
According to Dr. Sam-Dike, commercial transport operators will be barred from service until the vehicle is properly painted and all applicable fines are paid.
She urged operators seeking details, including information on workshops offering subsidised painting rates, should contact the Head of the Land Transportation Department, Engr Andrew Alapuberesisika.
The ministry which had earlier organized a town hall for stakeholders to address issues arising from the proposed state colour painting scheme thanked transport union leaders and vehicle owners who have already complied with the directive.
