Liverpool Held to Goalless Draw by Fulham at Anfield

Liverpool were held to a frustrating 0-0 draw by Fulham at Anfield as the visitors secured their first Premier League point of the season, while the result extended the Reds’ winless league run at home to four matches.

Liverpool started brightly and looked eager to impose themselves on the game. Alexander Isak came close to breaking the deadlock inside the opening 10 minutes after being played through by Ryan Gravenberch, but the Swedish striker dragged his left-footed effort narrowly wide.

Despite Liverpool’s early dominance, Fulham were handed a golden opportunity to take the lead when the hosts lost possession inside their own penalty area. Gonzalo García found himself with an open goal after Alisson had been drawn out, but Jérémy Jacquet produced a crucial goal-line clearance to deny the visitors.

Liverpool continued to control possession and created another excellent opportunity midway through the first half. Dominik Szoboszlai’s dangerous corner found Victor Muñoz, whose header appeared destined for the net before Bernd Leno produced an outstanding save to claw the ball away from the goal line.

Fulham remained dangerous on the counter and nearly went ahead before half-time when Antonee Robinson headed wide. Despite having lost their opening three matches, the visitors went into the break having frustrated Liverpool and given Álvaro Arbeloa plenty of encouragement.

Liverpool resumed the second half on the front foot, with Isak forcing Leno into a low save. However, the hosts continued to struggle against a well-organised Fulham defence that remained disciplined and difficult to break down.

Fulham offered little in attack for long periods but came close through Calvin Bassey, whose powerful header was comfortably held by Alisson. Leno was then called upon again at the other end, beating away a fierce Szoboszlai drive.

Josh King threatened to snatch all three points for Fulham late on when his curling effort was tipped behind by Alisson, but neither side could find the decisive breakthrough.

The draw was a fair reflection of a match that produced few clear-cut chances, leaving Liverpool with another disappointing home result and further ground to make up in the early title race.

For Fulham, however, the point represents a much-needed boost after three consecutive defeats to start the campaign and offers encouragement that their fortunes could be about to change.
