Fubara Pledges Improved Support for Corps Members in Rivers

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to improving the welfare of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members and upgrading the state’s orientation camp facilities.

The Governor made the pledge while receiving the Director General of the NYSC, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, and his team.

Fubara described the meeting as a “productive engagement”, which allowed his government to interact, assess facilities, and reaffirm its commitment to the corps members’ well-being.

Highlighting the warm reception given by the state’s population, Fubara stated: “Rivers people remain warm, peaceful and welcoming. We will continue upgrading the camp, expanding key facilities and providing supportive allowances that make service in our state truly rewarding.”

The governor also expressed pride in hosting the NYSC regional office and promised to ensure a fully conducive environment for its efficient operations.

However, during his visit to the NYSC permanent orientation camp at Nonwa-Gbam Tai, Nafiu addressed the 2025 Batch C Corps Members.

He advised the Corps Members to utilise their service year for positive impacts on the nation and to reflect deeply on the spirit of the NYSC anthem.

He urged them to represent the Scheme well, making it proud through their actions and inactions, and thus becoming “ambassadors of the Scheme’s success story.”

Nafiu encouraged the Corps Members to view the regimented camp experience as a crucial “transition from student orientation and lifestyle to work ethic mentality.”

He explained that the camp activities are designed to toughen them up and equip them physically, mentally, and emotionally for the challenges of real-life experiences.

However, the State Coordinator NYSC Rivers State, Moses Oleghe, commended the Corps Members for being “exceptional, disciplined and well-behaved” since their arrival, and also appreciated the DG for choosing the state as the first camp to visit in the 2025 Batch C orientation course.

The DG was accompanied on his visit by the Director, Information and Public Relations, Caroline Embu, Ag. Director Special Duties, Suleman Abdul, and Ag. Director, South South Area Office II, Port Harcourt, Philip Enaberue.
