Over 300 Bayelsa Residents Benefit from Rotary Medical, Relief Programme

Hundreds of vulnerable residents of Gbarantoru Community in Yenagoa Local Government Area of Bayelsa State have benefited from a free medical outreach and humanitarian intervention organised by Rotary District 9141, covering Edo, Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers and Akwa Ibom states.

The Rotary Food, Medicine and Clothing (FMC) programme provided beneficiaries, including elderly persons, women, youths and children, with free medical consultations, diagnosis, medications, food items and clothing.

Speaking during the outreach, the immediate past District Governor of Rotary District 9141, Chinedu Ikegwuani, said the initiative was designed to support vulnerable people in rural communities as part of Rotary International’s commitment to improving lives through humanitarian service.

According to him, the programme was expected to benefit more than 300 residents of the community, reflecting the organisation’s philosophy of service and its commitment to reaching underserved populations with meaningful interventions.

Also speaking, senior Rotarian and medical team lead, Dr. Nsikat Ntia, said the outreach offered healthcare services to people of all age groups, including children, adults and the elderly. He added that beneficiaries also received clean, gently used clothing collected from donors and prepared for distribution to those in need.

Ntia noted that rural communities remain a priority because of the high level of need, adding that the programme was aimed at improving access to basic healthcare and essential support for vulnerable households.

Assistant Governor of Rotary District 9141, Ifeoma Wabara, reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to community service, describing giving back to society as a core value of Rotary. She said the opportunity to provide food, medical care and clothing to those in need was fulfilling for volunteers and underscored Rotary’s mission of putting service above self.

Some beneficiaries, including Queen Shadrack and Ebiowei Samuel, expressed appreciation to the organisation for the intervention and called for stronger collaboration between government and humanitarian organisations to address the challenges facing rural communities.
