Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, and the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, have jointly emphasised that robust security, peace, and public trust are non-negotiable foundations for driving economic growth and national development.
The leaders made these remarks on Sunday during a Gala Night in Port Harcourt, organised to mark the 2026 Nigerian Army Day Celebration.
Fubara, who spoke through the Secretary to the State Government, Dagogo Wokoma, noted that a stable environment is the vital catalyst for any society looking to thrive. He extended deep gratitude to the military personnel who serve on the front lines to keep the nation safe.
Fubara added that the ongoing collaboration between the state government and the Nigerian Army’s 6 Division has directly fostered regional peace and boosted economic progress.
The governor also used the platform to pay solemn tribute to fallen soldiers, noting that their ultimate sacrifices remain invaluable to protecting Nigeria’s unity and upholding its democratic structures. He pledged that his administration would maintain its ironclad support for the military and other security agencies active within Rivers State.
Echoing the governor’s sentiments, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu highlighted that modern military success relies heavily on civilian trust and active community engagement. He explained that long-term national security requires a multifaceted approach where military operations seamlessly blend with community development.
As part of this year’s Army Day activities, the military executed several corporate social responsibility initiatives across Rivers State, including renovating community secondary schools and installing solar-powered boreholes.
The evening concluded with a celebration of Nigerian culture and entertainment, featuring vibrant performances by the Rivers State Cultural Troupe alongside popular music stars Mr P and Duncan Mighty.
