Women under the umbrella of Rivers Women Unite for SIM (RWUS) have intensified efforts to promote economic self-reliance through skills acquisition programmes aimed at improving the livelihoods of women across Rivers State.
The group made this known during its monthly prayer meeting held on Thursday at the Ecumenical Centre in Port Harcourt, where participants emphasized the importance of developing practical skills to navigate the country’s evolving economic landscape.
Speaking on the theme, “Praise, Purpose and Productivity: Giving Thanks, Gaining Skills, Building Futures,” Comrade Glory Sunday, Communication Officer of RWUS, said the initiative was designed to encourage economic independence among women and strengthen their capacity to support their families amid prevailing economic challenges.

They noted that empowering women economically contributes significantly to societal development, describing women as natural multipliers of opportunities capable of transforming modest beginnings into meaningful achievements.
The participants urged women to remain committed and intentional in acquiring the vocational skills offered through the programme, stressing that dedication and perseverance are essential for building sustainable businesses and securing brighter futures.
As part of the programme, the prayer session featured a practical demonstration on the production of soap, bleach, and disinfectants. The training forms part of a broader vocational empowerment initiative scheduled for June and July, with additional skills acquisition programmes lined up for subsequent sessions.
The women also reaffirmed their support for Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, describing him as a leader committed to the welfare and empowerment of women in the state.
