The Rivers State Police Command has commenced an investigation into the death of a 51-year-old man, identified as Brutus Egagha, whose decomposing body was discovered inside his duplex in the Woji area of Port Harcourt.
Egagha’s body was reportedly found at his residence on Unity Close, near the Federal Housing Estate, after neighbours and his security guard became concerned about a persistent foul odour emanating from the building.
According to accounts circulating on social media, the security guard had initially believed Egagha had travelled abroad to visit his family after he stopped seeing him for several days.
The reports claimed that as the odour became stronger and residents raised concerns, the security guard looked through a window and allegedly saw Egagha motionless on a couch. Residents subsequently forced the door open, where they reportedly discovered his body.
Unverified reports have suggested that the deceased may have been dead for nearly two weeks before his body was found. There have also been claims that used sanitary pads and a pair of women’s underwear were recovered from the residence.

Social-media posts have further made sensational allegations linking Egagha to alleged ritual activities and claimed that some women may have previously been victimised by him.
However, there is currently no official evidence or police confirmation supporting these allegations. The circumstances surrounding the reported items recovered from the residence also remain unclear.
As of the time of filing this report, the Rivers State Police Command had not publicly confirmed the cause of death or provided details of the ongoing investigation.
The body is expected to undergo forensic examination to help determine the cause and circumstances of Egagha’s death.
Authorities are expected to continue interviewing witnesses and examining evidence recovered from the residence as part of efforts to establish what happened.
