The father of the late Anthony Obodo, Princewill Obodo, has alleged that police officers were paid to kill his son, as he called for justice over the circumstances surrounding his death.
Speaking to our correspondent, Princewill claimed that the police officers involved in the incident were initially deployed to provide security at the Nigerian Bar Association conference held at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium in Elekahia, Port Harcourt.
He alleged that the officers were later redeployed to the area where his son was killed.
Princewill further claimed that police authorities who visited the family’s residence after the incident confirmed that Anthony was innocent.
He said the family had been left deeply traumatised by the death and appealed to the authorities to investigate the circumstances surrounding the killing and ensure justice for his son.
Earlier on Monday, youths staged a protest at Agip Junction, Ada George, over Anthony’s alleged killing.
The protesters reportedly blocked parts of the road and set tyres on fire, disrupting vehicular movement in the area.
Some of the protesters also spoke to our correspondent, expressing their grievances and demanding justice.
The situation was later brought under control following the arrival of the Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adepoju, and members of his management team.
The circumstances surrounding Anthony Obodo’s death remain a subject of concern, with the family and protesters calling for accountability and a thorough investigation.
