Augsburg began their Bundesliga campaign with a convincing 3-0 victory over newly promoted Schalke at the WWK Arena, extending their unbeaten run in matchday-one fixtures to four games.
Schalke started brightly and created two early chances, but Augsburg goalkeeper Finn Dahmen stood firm to deny Moussa Sylla and Ron Schallenberg.
Augsburg then took control and opened the scoring in the 18th minute. Anton Kade brilliantly worked his way into the box before setting up Michael Gregoritsch, who calmly finished from close range.

Schalke remained competitive after the break, but their hopes suffered a major blow when Schallenberg was shown a straight red card for bringing down Gregoritsch as the last defender.
Augsburg took full advantage of the numerical advantage, with Kade doubling the lead in the 79th minute by firing in off the post. Rodrigo Ribeiro then added a third in stoppage time to complete a comfortable victory.
The result means Augsburg are now unbeaten in 12 of their last 13 home matches, while Schalke’s return to the top flight ends in a disappointing defeat.
