National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has increased its efforts against illegal drug trafficking in Rivers State, which resulted in the arrest of an individual accused of dealing in drugs in a recent raid in Rumuokoro part of Port Harcourt.
According to NDLEA on Sunday, during the operation, the agency managed to seize some drugs which were allegedly in possession of the suspect.
Abubakar Usman, who is 28 years old, was arrested by the NDLEA during a raid which took place on June 9.

Amongst items seized during the raid include 400 grammes of skunk, five grammes of methamphetamine, 100 grammes of tramadol, five grammes of swinol and 18 grammes of diazepam. NDLEA further revealed that Abubakar Usman is a person with disabilities.
The arrest is just one among many that have been made recently by the NDLEA as the agency works towards eliminating drug trafficking.
Other arrests and seizures made during NDLEA operations in Nigeria include those from Abia, Delta, Gombe, Kano, Kwara, Taraba, Lagos and FCT, Abuja.
Other successful drug busts include that of a businessman who arrived in Nigeria from Brazil at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, owing to suspicion that he was smuggling into the country a quantity of shirts and towels soaked in liquid cocaine weighing 6.10 kilogrammes.
Other arrests and seizures included the capture of large quantities of cannabis and other illicit drugs throughout the length and breadth of the nation.
The NDLEA further stated that its commands and formations kept up with the campaigns on drug abuse awareness through its ‘War Against Drugs Abuse’ programme in educational institutions, communities, places of work, and places of worship.
The Chairman of the NDLEA, Mohamed Marwa, applauded the officers responsible for these successful drug operations and those of the Rivers State Command for helping in decreasing illicit drug supply in the country and public sensitization about the dangers of illicit drug abuse.
He encouraged them to stay focused on this war against drug trafficking.
