The Rivers State Police Command has renewed its clampdown on vehicle-related crimes, warning against the use of concealed number plates and unregistered vehicles across the state as part of intensified security measures.
In a statement issued on Sunday by the Police Public Relations Officer, Blessing Agabe Kaborlo, the Command said motorists found covering, altering, or operating vehicles without registration numbers would be arrested and prosecuted.
The police explained that the directive forms part of ongoing efforts to combat criminal activities such as “one-chance” robberies, kidnappings, and other violent crimes in Rivers State.
The Command also reiterated that restrictions on tricycle operations between 10 p.m. and early morning hours remain in effect, noting that criminal elements often exploit commercial transport systems to perpetrate crimes.

According to the statement, the Commissioner of Police has directed officers to enforce the order strictly and arrest offenders without delay.
The police further announced that from May 18, 2026, commercial tricycles fitted with tinted glass or any form of covering capable of hiding the identity of passengers would be banned. Vehicles found violating the directive would be impounded while operators face prosecution.
Authorities said the measures are specifically targeted at curbing the increasing cases of “one-chance” operations, where unsuspecting passengers are robbed or abducted by criminals posing as commercial transport operators.
Residents were advised to remain vigilant, avoid boarding vehicles in isolated or poorly lit locations, especially at night, and where possible, share vehicle registration details with trusted contacts before embarking on trips.
