The Rivers Alternative Movement, Ahoada West Chapter, has taken its grassroots sensitisation campaign, tagged “Operation Protect Your Unit,” to communities in Ahoada West Local Government Area of Rivers State ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The exercise, held over the weekend, focused on mobilising eligible voters and encouraging residents to take an active role in protecting their votes at polling units.
The campaign was conducted in line with the Movement’s stated objective of promoting “One Voice, One Goal Towards a Sustainable Rivers State.”
Speaking during the exercise, Chairman of the Rivers Alternative Movement in Ahoada West, Comrade Jacob Wisdom Tekena, received the Convener of the Movement, Comrade Somina Wokoma.
Tekena reaffirmed the determination of residents in the local government area to protect their votes and ensure the integrity of the electoral process during the 2027 elections.
Also present was the Chairman of the Rivers Alternative Movement, Abua-Odual Chapter, Comrade Dawari Dickson, who expressed concern over what he described as attempts by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, to exert undue political influence in Rivers State.
Dickson assured constituents that measures had been put in place to safeguard votes and ensure that ballots cast during the election are properly counted.
In his keynote address, Wokoma urged citizens to take responsibility for the electoral process by actively defending their polling units.
He encouraged voters to prioritise credible candidates over political party affiliations and resist monetary inducements, godfatherism and political imposition, which he described as threats to democratic development.
Wokoma also called on Rivers voters to reject Wike and candidates associated with what he referred to as the “Rainbow Coalition,” arguing that the state should be protected from what he described as self-serving political interests.
He further emphasised the importance of the Permanent Voter’s Card, describing it as the primary instrument through which citizens exercise their constitutional right to vote.
The Movement’s Convener disclosed that the organisation was currently assessing individuals with credible records of service for possible adoption ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
According to him, the Movement’s adopted governorship candidate would be announced in due course.
At the end of the sensitisation exercise, the Rivers Alternative Movement issued a communiqué urging all eligible citizens to obtain their Permanent Voter’s Cards, vote conscientiously and remain vigilant in protecting their polling units.
The Movement reaffirmed its commitment to promoting accountable, people-centred and sustainable leadership in Rivers State.
