The Federal Government has released N11.8 billion to support 6,842 academic and non-academic staff in Nigerian tertiary institutions under the Tertiary Institutions Staff Support Fund (TISSF).
The beneficiaries were drawn from 141 institutions, including federal universities, polytechnics and colleges of education. The scheme, introduced in August 2025 by the Federal Ministry of Education Nigeria in partnership with Tertiary Education Trust Fund, is designed to improve staff welfare, career growth and financial stability.
Through the initiative, eligible workers can access interest-free loans of up to N10 million. So far, about 34,000 applicants from 219 institutions have been verified, with university staff accounting for the largest share at 59 percent. Polytechnic workers make up 23 per cent, while colleges of education account for 18 percent.

The programme forms part of broader education reforms under the Nigeria Education Sector Renewal Initiative. In addition, 240 electric tricycles have been distributed across 12 institutions to support mobility.
Other projects include the EduRevamp Teacher Platform, a digital training system offering courses, case studies and certifications to improve teaching standards. Since its launch in early 2026, it has attracted over 37,000 users, with 18,000 fully enrolled.
Also, the School Safety Portal developed with the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps now contains data on more than 156,000 schools nationwide, aimed at strengthening security monitoring.
Officials say the initiatives are part of ongoing efforts to modernise Nigeria’s education sector and improve working conditions for staff.
