The Chairman of Okrika Local Government Area, Hon. Akuro Tobin, has asked the church to remain patient with government as efforts to deliver development continue.
Tobin spoke at the 2nd Session of the 8th Synod of the Church of Nigeria (Global Anglican Communion), Diocese of Okrika, held at Bethel Church, Amadi-Ama, Port Harcourt, where a fundraising for the cathedral project also took place.
The synod, themed “The Outpouring of the Holy Spirit” with reference to Isaiah 32:15, drew clergy, government officials and members of the congregation.
Addressing participants, Tobin said development cannot be achieved by government alone, stressing the need for collective effort.
“We cannot do it all on our own.
With the support and cooperation of all stakeholders, development is achievable,” he said.He also read the second lesson from 1 Corinthians 15:2–28 during the service.
Also present were the Chairman of Port Harcourt Local Government Area, Hon. Allwell Ihunda, and the Chairman of Ogu/Bolo Local Government Area, Hon. Vincent Nemieboka, represented by his Vice Chairman, Hon. Eunice Alabo.
The three councils donated a total of ₦15 million to support the Diocese’s Secretariat project.Delivering the sermon, the Bishop of Nsukka Diocese, Rt. Rev. Aloysius Agbo, urged Christians to stay sensitive to the Holy Spirit and remain committed in their faith.
He said the Holy Spirit requires dedication and should not be treated casually.In his remarks, the Bishop of Okrika Diocese, Rt. Rev. Enoch Atuboyedia, thanked the council chairmen for their support and prayed for God’s guidance in their leadership.
