Don’t travel abroad for your health needs, come to RSUTH – Wike

Governor Nyesom Wike has approved the refurbishing of Rivers State University Teaching Hospital.

Governor Wike who disclosed this while Commissioning the re-equipped Radiology Department of Rivers State University Teaching Hospital in Port Harcourt said seventy per cent of the money will be paid to the contractor on 5th November for work commencement.

According to him, his administration is committed to improving health facilities, in order for Rivers people to access quality health in the state, while urging people to stop travelling abroad for their medical treatment, but access good health care delivery in RSUTH.

“Health is very important, Rivers State deserves the best, health is major in every aspect of life, without good health you can not render medical services successfully, people travel abroad not because we lack good doctors, but for lack of medical equipment. Today Rivers State will no more refer patients outside the state or abroad, rather people should come here because we now have the equipment.

“Nobody can help this state, nobody can promote this state except us. The only property we have is River state. Therefore, we must not fold our hands because there is no federal government presence in the state, we must work together to promote the interest of the state irrespective of the political party we belong”

Governor Wike urged doctors to make good use of the internal revenue generated to improve the lives of workers and the hospital.

“The internal revenue you generate should be utilized to improve the hospital. Do not rely on the government for everything, after this period my hands are off. So, you must use the revenue to change the system, we have other things to do with money as government. I have agreed to give you a generator and refurbish the entire hospital”

The Governor, however, approved the payment of residence doctors training allowance, employment of more health personnel in the state for the smooth running of the hospital.

On his part, Chief Medical Director of RSUTH, Dr Aaron Friday, thanked Governor Wike for upgrading the hospital to a state of the art that meets international standard, which has greatly increased the hospital’s patronage.
