Police Officer Allegedly Kills One, Three Others Injured in Port Harcourt

A yet-to-be-identified law enforcement agent has reportedly shot dead a motorist while three bystanders sustained injuries near Agip junction along Ada George road yesterday evening.

The event reportedly occurred after the victim, who was operating a motor vehicle, allegedly failed to stop when he was flagged down by police officers stationed around the Agip/Ada George Junction.

An eyewitness, who pleaded anonymity, told journalists that the incident happened at about 5pm, saying that one of the officers allegedly opened fire at the vehicle after the driver refused to stop.

According to the eye witness, the police officer fired three bullets. The vehicle lost control and hit three other people standing by the junction.

He added that after shooting the driver, the officer began firing indiscriminately while attempting to flee. Some youths rushed at him, collected the gun from him and beat him. While they were beating the policeman, other officers arrived and rescued him.

Mr Princewill Obodo, the father of the man allegedly shot dead by Police officer at Agip/Ada George junction yesterday has expressed displeasure at some media personnel who rushed to social media to tag his dead Son a “yahoo” boy.

He labeled such coverage as careless and unprofessional. He stated his son is a degree holder awaiting deployment by the national service scheme.

Certain individuals ought to exercise caution regarding what they publish on Facebook without authentication.

” I saw some posts by some persons claiming the deceased victim is a Yahoo boy. The issue at hand is a clear case of Murder. I have told the Police so too. Assuming, though not conceding he is a Yahoo boy, that is not a justification for killing him. What happened there yesterday is not one of the conditions in Force Order 237 that a Police officer that permits a Police officer to use his firearm “.
