Salah, Palmer Shortlisted for PFA Player of the Year Award

Liverpool duo Mohamed Salah and Alexis Mac Allister have been shortlisted alongside four others for the Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA) Men’s Player of the Year award.

In a statement issued on Friday, the award organisers also named Arsenal’s Declan Rice, Chelsea’s Cole Palmer, Newcastle striker Alexander Isak, and Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes as part of the final six nominees. This year’s awards ceremony is scheduled to take place in Manchester on 19 August.

The 33-year-old Salah and his teammate Mac Allister were instrumental in Liverpool’s Premier League campaign. The Egyptian forward recorded 18 goals and numerous assists, while the Argentine midfielder played a crucial role in anchoring the midfield alongside his teammates.

Salah, who recently signed a new contract with the Reds, was voted Footballer of the Year by the Football Writers’ Association, securing nearly 90 per cent of the votes. He also clinched several Premier League honours in what many regard as one of the best seasons of his career.

Palmer, who won the PFA Young Player of the Year award for the 2023/24 season, made the shortlist despite some inconsistency during the campaign. Rice impressed in midfield for Arsenal, scoring nine goals and providing 10 assists in 52 appearances across all competitions.

Swedish striker Isak was another standout performer last season, scoring 23 goals for Newcastle United. He played a key role in helping the club qualify for the Champions League and end a 56-year trophy drought by winning the League Cup against Liverpool.

Despite Manchester United’s disappointing season, Fernandes remained one of their most consistent players. His leadership and performances helped the team secure a Europa League spot, although they ultimately fell short against Tottenham Hotspur.
