MURDER IN MARINE BASE: PORT HARCOURT FASHION DESIGNER FALLS VICTIM TO GIRLFRIEND’S DEADLY JEALOUSY

A 25-year-old fashion designer, Ubong from Akwaibom, based in Marine Base, Port Harcourt, was allegedly murdered by his girlfriend, aged   21, on Sunday evening, the 30th of March 2025. The incident has sent shockwaves through the community, with friends and family of the deceased expressing their outrage and grief.

According to sources, Ubong’s girlfriend killed him due to alleged infidelity, claiming he was going out with other girls. It was also alleged that she used poison to commit the crime. After poisoning Ubong, she hid his body under their bed for three days.

Ubong’s colleagues had been searching for him since Sunday, but his girlfriend deceived them, saying he had gone to the toilet and she hadn’t seen him since. The colleagues, suspicious of her claim, searched for Ubong, which ultimately led them to discover his lifeless body in his house on the second day in April.

The girlfriend has allegedly confessed to the crime, stating that she killed Ubong because he was cheating on her. The police are currently investigating the matter, and more details are expected to emerge in the coming hours.

As the investigation into Ubong’s murder continues, the community remains in shock and mourning.

A colleague, who wishes to remain anonymous, shared his account of the events leading up to the discovery of Ubong’s body: “He is from Akwa Ibom State. I don’t know the girl’s name but they both stay together, he is a fashion designer. On Sunday, when I went to check up on him, his girlfriend told me he went to the toilet after by nine, and has not returned. I went there on Monday. She said he is not yet back, but she is the one that killed him, She didn’t run actually; she was staying at one of his friends’ place around Marine Base. I don’t know why she didn’t run, but we didn’t know the guy was inside. She killed him and put him under the bed.

I don’t know what caused it, but we were told this morning when they caught her that she said she was jealous that he was carrying different women, and the death was caused by poisoning. She poisoned his food, based on what she told us, because I was there on Sunday evening to check up on him because he has my job that he is doing for me, so when I went there she told me that they have been looking for Ubong, I asked what happened and she said he went to the toilet that he was putting on only shirt with his shorts that he kept his phone in the house and went out. So probably the phone was with her. We didn’t know that she don kill this boy put am under bed. So that was what really happened.”

The girlfriend has been arrested by the police and is currently in custody. The family of the deceased has been notified, and they are expected to arrive from Akwa Ibom State to claim Ubong’s body. The police are awaiting their arrival to proceed with the necessary formalities.
