Soot: Rivers Assembly visits Police, NSCDC

Members of the Rivers State House of Assembly on Tuesday paid advocacy visits to the Rivers State Police Command and the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Rivers State Command.

The visits, which was led by Rt. Hon. Ikuinyi-ibani Owaji, Speaker of the House, were part of the resolution reached at the plenary on the need for effective policing to curb bunkering and illegal refining of crude oil.

Earlier at the plenary, a motion of public importance to address the problem of black soot in Rivers State was moved by Leader of the House and Member representing Obio/Akpor Constituency 1, Martin Amaewhule and co-sponsored by Dumle Maol Esq, House Committee Chairman on Environment and Member representing Gokana Constituency.

In his submission, Amaewhule said soot was encouraged by human activities and also commended the state government for steps taken to curb the public threat.

Subsequently, the House voted in favour of the motion and resolved to visit security agencies to demand an action against criminal activities promoting soot in the state.
