Nigerian forward Philip Otele is about to take a major step forward in his European career. The 26year old winger is the latest in a permanent switch from Swiss Super League giants FC Basel to Italian Serie A side Lecce.
Direct talks between Lecce and FC Basel are set to take place this week to finalize the final administrative details of the deal.
If the talks lead to a positive outcome, Otele becomes one of the latest Nigerian superstars to test his talents at the top levels of Italian football.

FC Basel are said to hold a switch rate in the region of €3 million for the Nigerian striker. Interestingly, this exact figure favors the Swiss outfit that returned Al-Wahda in 2025 on behalf of the UAE to recruit Otele.
Although Otelle is under contract with FC Basel until June 2028, the Swiss club are open to his departure as they restructure their squad for the impending marketing campaign. Lecce will view the €3m fee tag as an entirely reasonable valuation for an explosive winger capable of playing across the front line.
